There is just something awesome about dreaming up an idea and then forging steel into a useful, durable and lasting reality. So when I am not taking care of the animals, rotating pastures, fixing my own fence, cutting wood or tending the produce, I am building and welding. Welding is a useful skill on the farm that I practiced long before we bought or farm but it was not until we bought the farm that we were able to turn welding into a business. For the most part I have been busy ever since.
Lately we had the opportunity to design and fabricate some very unique gates for a customer looking to market them. We really appreciated this as it gave me an opportunity to work close to home and out of the weather when it was bad. For the most part, however, I work on finding solutions for farmers’ issues like notorious water gaps or building pipe fence and even various maintenance and repair. Sometimes you might find me doing odd jobs for loyal customer like spraying weeds, mowing, a construction project or who knows what. It is nice to do something different sometimes. However, going back to welding, it never fails, I never miss the satisfying feelings of fixing someone else’s problem and seeing the pleasure on their face even long after the job is done like when I build a water gap like this:
