WE offer not only Farm Fresh but Free Range EGGS.
The majority of our eggs are brown from our heritage breed and their crossbreed chickens, however, we have a few Easter Egger chickens that lay shades of blue shelled eggs. They are a fun addition.
We currently have about 50 chickens that free-range in the open field near the house all day and get locked into the chicken coup at night to protect them from predators.
Chicken Diet:
Our chicken’s main diet is the bugs and plants they eat out in the field. We do throw them our extra produce and weeds from our garden which they love. To ensure they are getting enough nutrients we supplement the chickens’ high-quality pelleted feed. Lately, we have been working on drying nutritionally dense plants like comfrey and dock to feed to our chickens through the winter. We are always researching, learning, and trying new ways to use our chickens to better our homestead and improve the quality of their lives and the eggs you and I eat.
Goal
We strive to find ways to feed our chickens as naturally as we can while making sure our chickens stay healthy and the eggs you buy are affordable. This is an ongoing process as we learn, research, experiment, and evaluate. One way we hope to improve our chicken operation is to build a portable coup so that we can move the chickens behind our cattle as we rotate them through the fields. We think this will help improve our chickens and eggs even more.
Eggs Year-Round?
We do everything we can to provide a consistent supply of eggs year-round, but just know that when it comes to farm-fresh eggs that there are times due to the hot summer heat or deep winter cold or chickens molting that egg production declines. Though this is inconvenient we are glad you understand. We do our best to overcome this though.
